Expressions of the week
Posted on | March 19, 2009 |
Time flies and I realise it has been a long time since I have written the last « expressions of the week » … Shame on me!
Many French expressions use the word “langue” which means “tongue” in English and I was eager to share some with you.
To never be at a loss for words ->Ne pas avoir la langue dans la poche;
To be very talkative or to have the gift of (the) gab ->Avoir la langue bien pendue;
On the tip of your tongue ->(Avoir quelque chose) sur le bout de la langue;
To have a lisp ->Avoir un cheveu sur la langue;
To be a malicious gossip or to bad mouth ->Etre mauvaise langue;
Bite your tongue a thousand times before you speak or Count to ten before you speak ->Tourner la langue sept fois dans sa bouche (avant de parler).
