Expressions of the week

Posted on | February 15, 2009 |

    I was recently speaking to a friend about… the weather :???: , which made him say: you’re English now!
    So let’s start this category with this very English topic: the weather

    It's raining cats and dogs

     “How to say it is raining a lot”

    =>It’s pouring with rain.
    =>It’s raining cats and dogs
    =>It’s bucketing down (my favourite)
    =>It’s raining buckets

    While the 2 last expressions could be literally translated in French (Il pleut à seaux, il pleut des seaux); the second one (It’s raining cats and dogs) would sound plain weird (Il pleut des chats et chiens).

    Image found on http://drpezz.wordpress.com/2008/08/23/why-cats-and-dogs/ where you can also find a possible answer about the origins of the expression: It’s raining cats and dogs.
